Child Custody
My firm represents clients located throughout Illinois and in particular in the Peoria, Tazewell, Fulton and Woodford County areas. I can help those requiring assistance and advice in family law matters relating to child custody and visitation. My goal is to focus on your unique needs in order to work toward a fair resolution of your concerns while avoiding the unnecessary public exposure of private issues.
Child custody and visitation decisions are some of the most important aspects of a divorce or dissolution proceeding. In determining how parental responsibilities should be shared, your and your former spouse or partner must determine:
- The residence, both primary and secondary of your child or children
- If you and your former partner or spouse desire rotating custody
- A visitation schedule
- How you and your former spouse or partner will make decisions which affect your child or children
Overall, when determining child custody and visitation matters, it is important to carefully consider your children's current and future needs, keeping in mind each parent's economic situation and potential, caretaking ability and availability, as well as your child's bonds with their other siblings.
Generally, a child custody determination may not be challenged for a two-year period without a showing of child endangerment. To bring custody modification proceedings within two years, one must file affidavits which indicate there is reason to believe the environment of the children may endanger their phsycial or mental well-being.
If you need to determine child custody or visitation issues as you begin the dissolution of your partnership or marriage, are currently in the process of determining child custody or visitation, or if you are having problems or issues with a court-ordered custody arrangement, I can help.
