According to the American Burn Association, each year in the United States, 500,000 burn injuries require medical attention and 4000 people die.

In Illinois there is a statute that related to burn injuries.  425 ILCS 7 also known as the Burn Injury Reporting Act requires that every case of a burn injury treated in a hospital may be reported to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
