Careless/Reckless Driving

Under Illinois driving law, driving privileges can be temporarily withdrawn, also known as suspended, for a specified time period, or permanently terminated, also known as revoked, or cancelled.

Revocation

"Revocation" means that your driving privileges have been taken away indefinitely by the Secretary of State's office. To regain your driving privileges, you may be eligible to reapply for your license after a minimum of one year, unless the Court of Secretaries Offices finds otherwise. Revocation of a driver's license is a serious matter. Your driver's license shall be revoked if you are convicted of the following offenses:

  • Reckless Homicide;
  • Driving Under the Influence -DUI;
  • A felony offense committed using an automobile;
  • Lying to the Secretary of State when filling out an application--Perjury;
  • Reckless Conduct;
  • Drag Racing;
  • Reckless driving;
  • Aggravating fleeing the police;
  • Auto theft.
