NEW LAW January 1, 2025

Recently the governor signed a new law extending the time for filing a discrimination case with the Illinois Department of Human Rights (“IDHR“). The new time takes it from 300 days to two-years. This new time period will allow employees to go back much further when trying to seek justice for any work-related discrimination. This new extended time also applies to public accommodation sexual harassment. So for example if a bank employee or accountant is sexually harassing you as a customer, you can file a claim.

This gives the company a chance to settle before incuring substantial legal fees and bad publicity. And it gives them a chance to do the right thing.
